LA BELLE EPOQUE

Victor (Daniel Auteuil), a disillusioned 60-something whose
marriage is on the rocks, finds a company that allows
clients to return to a time of their choice. He opts to relive
the week of his life when, 40 years earlier, he met his true
love.
This whimsical and amusing piece is directed and written
by Nicolas Bedos.

A nine-year-old Indigenous orphan, impressively
portrayed by Aswan Reid, arrives in the dead of night at a
remote monastery run by a renegade nun - an understated
Cate Blanchett (also co-producer) - assisted by Sister Mum
(Deborah Mailman). Enigmatic and cryptic with a rousing
score by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis. Directed by Warwick
Thornton.

Directorial debut and semi-autobiographical film by Celine
Song. It follows two childhood friends over the course of 24
years after Na Young’s family immigrates to Toronto and
the two lose contact. It premiered at the Sundance Film
Festival, gained five nominations at the 81st Golden Globe
Awards and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay
and Best Picture at the Oscars.

Jeanne du Barry, the daughter of an impoverished
seamstress, becomes the mistress favourite of King Louis
XV (Johnny Depp). Using her intelligence and allure she
rises through the king’s court and scandalises French
society. Jeanne is played by Maïwenn, who also directs.

A sensitive and soulful man earns a living by writing personal
letters for other people. Left heartbroken after his marriage
ends, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) becomes fascinated
with a new operating system – A.I. (How does this shape
up 10 years later?) He meets “Samantha” (Scarlett
Johansson), whose bright voice reveals a sensitive, playful
personality and a relationship develops. Directed by Spike

The film premiered in competition at the 2021 Cannes
Film Festival to widespread critical acclaim, with Renate
Reinsve winning the award for Best Actress for her
performance in the film. Julie, a medical student in Oslo,
transitions to psychology and then photography. In her
late 20s, she begins a relationship with Aksel Willman, a
comic artist 15 years her senior. Now exploring writing, she
falls into another relationship with a barista Eivind. Joachin
Trier directs.

(James Stewart) passes the long days looking out the
rear window. When he suspects that a man across the

girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly), and nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter)
join in the intrigue. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan
Sarandon), discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter
(Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist and his latest creation -
“Rocky.” Their innocence is lost as Brad and Janet, through
elaborate dances and rock songs meet a houseful of wild
characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a
creepy butler (Richard O’Brien.) Jim Sharman directs this
over-the-top homage to the days of Saturday matinee
double-features and late night B-grade thrillers.

BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB

This documentary follows renowned guitarist Ry Cooder
and his son, Joachim, travelling to Cuba to assemble a
group of the country’s finest musicians to record an album.
Among the artists included in the project are singer Ibrahim
Ferrer and pianist Rubén González who perform in front of
rapt audiences. Directed by Wim Wenders.

LOST IN PARIS

This delightful and quirky comedy tells the story of Fiona
(Fiona Gordon) arriving in Paris to assist her aunt Martha.
Various catastrophes ensue, mainly involving Dom
(Dominique Abel), a homeless man living in a tent, who
comes into Fiona’s life for better or worse. Gordon and
Abel, a couple in real life, write and direct this physical
and visual piece.
